We are now accepting applications for the 2023 Board of Directors. If you’re looking for ways to serve your community; develop leadership skills; and support the amazing Edmonds Library, this is the volunteer opportunity for you!

Application Timeline

  • Interested candidates are encouraged to review the position descriptions and bylaws below, then submit your application as soon as possible, using this online form: https://forms.gle/KbpdGptxUnJ9Snfz9
  • Applications are due by 5 PM Pacific on Monday, October 31st.
  • We will conduct interviews with all applicants by Wednesday, November 9th.
  • Applicants will be informed of their selection status by Sunday, November 13th.
  • Confirmed candidates will be voted-in by FEL members at the Annual Business Meeting on Thursday, November 17th. (Attendance encouraged but not required).
  • Training for new Board members will take place in December 2022.
  • New Board terms begin January 2023.

Open Positions

Open positions include the President, Treasurer, and Directors-at-Large. All board members are responsible for the planning and administration of the organization, and to ensure the FEL By-Laws are adhered to. The By-Laws (here) were updated in 2022 to allow incoming Board members maximum flexibility in planning the work of FEL, while maintaining transparency with FEL members and community stakeholders. The FEL Board meets every-other month, at a mutually agreeable time/location, beginning January of 2023.

President

  • Works with Board members to confirm Board meeting schedule for each calendar year;
  • Prepares an agenda for each Board meeting, ensuring all activities in the FEL Calendar are completed on time;
  • Presides at Board meetings and at all membership meetings;
  • Works with Edmonds Library staff liaison to identify opportunities for continued support and alignment;
  • Secures meeting and/or event space for all Association activities;
  • Appoints chairs of ad-hoc committees and assigns ideas/activities with guidance from the Board;
  • Works with other officers to promote the Association’s activities;
  • Maintains and updates the Policy and Procedures Manual;
  • Maintains/oversees access to FEL Storage Facility.

Treasurer

  • Oversees receipt and deposit of monies from membership dues, book sales, and other sources of income;
  • Pays bills and reimburses members for authorized expenses, arranging a second signature when required;
  • Records all financial transactions of the Association;
  • Prepares monthly income, expense and balance sheet statements;
  • Reports on finances to the Board at regular Board meetings;
  • Makes Treasurer’s books and records available for the annual internal audit;
  • Files annual report forms and fee with the Secretary of State of Washington to renew nonprofit status;
  • Files annual Washington State Charities Registration Form with fee;
  • Files annual tax forms to Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Directors-At-Large

  • Up to three (3) directors are appointed to provide insight, expertise, and guidance on activities of the Association to support the Association’s stated purpose (By-Laws, II);
  • Participates in Board meetings;
  • Works with other officers to promote the Association’s activities;
  • Handles special assignments, as requested.
