Just in time for the start of school this month, we are thrilled to announce the recipients of our annual Graduate Scholarship and local Education and Literacy grant. These investments are supported by our generous members, as well as revenue generated from our book sales and other local fundraisers. Thank you to all of our supporters who make this possible. Libraries are for learning, and we value the opportunity to champion education in its many forms.
Washington Kids in Transition Awarded Education and Literacy Grant
Washington Kids in Transition serves local students and families impacted by homelessness and housing insecurity. While the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated this spring, and school and home routines became severely disrupted, Washington Kids in Transition worked tirelessly to ensure adequate supports for the most vulnerable students. Friends of the Edmonds Library awarded $2,000 to Washington Kids in Transition to support their accelerated efforts as part of our Education and Literacy grant program, which supports local organizations providing educational programming in our community.
iSchool Scholarship
Catherine Matthews was awarded the $2,000 Friends of the Edmonds Library Graduate Scholarship for her studies at the University of Washington iSchool. Catherine will complete her Master of Library & Information Science this 2020-2021 academic year, “…utilizing social justice, equity, and anti-racist frameworks when exploring the intersection between social services and public libraries.” A long-standing program of the Friends, the Graduate Scholarship supports our objective to advance information in library and information services.
